Grandma's French Toast

Serves 4

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter

  1. Break eggs into a wide, shallow bowl and beat lightly with a fork.
  2. Stir in 1 teaspoon sugar, salt, and milk.
  3. Soak the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, then carefully turn to coat the other side.
  4. Over medium-low heat, heat griddle or skillet coated with a thin layer of butter.
  5. Cook the soaked slices, one at a time, about 2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  6. Remove from heat to serving dish
  7. Mix remaining teaspoon sugar with teaspoon cinnamon, sprinkle over French toast slices and serve.
