Classic Barbecue Sauce

You can use this classic barbecue sauce to add tons of zest to your outdoor cooking meals

This tomato based barbecue sauce renders a delicious, rich sauce which is simply great on ribs.

This recipe makes between 1 and 1/12 cups of sauce. Prepare this barbecue sauce a couple of days beforehand, and store it in the refrigerator to get all the flavors in delicious harmony.

  • 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Coarsely ground black pepper, to taste


  1. Heat olive oil in medium pan.
  2. Add onion and garlic, saute on medium high heat until onion is soft and transparent.
  3. Add remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly and allow to simmer for about 20 minutes.

Store the sauce in an airtight food saver container such as a canning jar or a ziplock storage bag until required.
